Act Today!
Here are a few things you can do to stop Israeli settler violence against Palestinian farmers today.…
- Call your representatives, talk to them, leave messages, visit their offices (yes, it’s open to all constituents. Make a day of it and take a friend. Call the switchboard and ask them to connect you with any representative. (202) 224-3121. Ask them the following questions:
What are they doing to stop Israeli settler violence against Palestinian farmers in the West Bank?
What are they doing to protect Gaza’s farmers so they can have food to feed themselves?
Why are our tax dollars being used to support Israeli violence that is left unchecked against the farmers.
Our community needs – why are we sending so much to Israel when we could be using it here?
2. Attend your representative’s town hall meetings and speak up. Ask your representative the same questions.
3. Visit your congressional offices in Washington DC. The Capitol is the people’s house, and all are welcome. Simply look up which building your representative is in and make a visit. Take any concerns you have about your community needs with you. Ask them those questions.
4. Write letters, emails or send faxes to your representatives and ask the questions.
5. This is something you can easily do quietly but that can be highly effective. Use apps like NoThanks! and Disoccupied. Also, check out their website at https://bdsmovement.net/. Remember if you can’t do a full boycott, pick a few items you can boycott and encourage others to do the same. Boycotting works. The less money the big corporations have, the less money goes to support Israeli settlers and their actions.
6. Join groups in your area. If you see an action that you like, reach out. There are groups in every city and if you cannot find a group, start one. Bring together two or three to start, decide what you want to do (use this list) and go at it. You’ll be surprised how your group will grow.
- Use social media to post content about the Israeli settler violence against the Palestinian farmer both in the WB and Gaza. Most of the farmable land in Gaza has been bombed or occupied. Post, share, tweet, like.
- Create your own social media skit highlighting the plight of the Palestinian farmer, the weaponization of food in Gaza, the starvation in Gaza because of the violence against farmers, etc. Post and boost.
- Call your representative’s offices. Create a phone tree of friends and family to call every time a new attack on a farmer happens. Call often and do not relent. Leave messages expressing concern for the Palestinian farmer facing violence at the hands of Israeli settlers in the WB. Express concern that despite the ceasefire, withholding of food continues and farmers are still unable to farm in Gaza and feed a population that continues to starve and be malnourished.
- Speak up. Speak out. Wherever you are talk about the horrific situation for the Palestinian farmers facing violence daily both in the WB and Gaza. Educate friends and family and share knowledge as you go. Encourage people to join you in advocating for the end of Israeli settler violence in the WB and Israeli violence against the farmer in Gaza.
- Write letters to the editor or to the ombudsmen at your local newspaper. Smaller local papers and magazines will often welcome guest writers. Tell the story of Israeli settler violence against Palestinian farmers both in the West Bank and Gaza
- Offer to speak at your local church or civic group. Host a dinner or get together for friends. Educate people about the usage of our tax dollars to perpetuate Israeli violence against Palestinian farmers.
- Create a simple flyer that says, Stop Israeli violence against Palestinian farmers in the West Bank and Gaza now! Our tax dollars are better used here at home. Check your local laws and distribute in parking lots where lawful; distribute to the public near metros or bus stations.
Bottom line, collectively, there are many things we can do to educate and stop the horrible Israeli attacks against Palestinian farmers…perpetuated on our U.S. tax dollars. Good people who want to see the end to violence are the majority. Every action we take individually builds collective momentum to stop the madness.
